I've observed the way students in my school act, and I've developed a theory as to the working of 8th grade relationships. Romance is used by males to propel themselves to a higher social status. They first and second base "their woman" in front of everyone to assert their status as the dominant male of the pack. Nothing more, nothing less.

Who else here agrees that humans are just slightly more sophisticated animals? (This is something I thought everyone already knew, but none of the retarded kids at my school understand this shit. It just goes over their heads.)

I would argue that fundamentally humans are like an expansion pack to animals.  We've got everything animals have... and more.  The weird part is that some of the extra stuff humans have makes us WORSE than animals.  My opinion is the opposite of Barnaby's.  I think that one of the main problems with humans in comparison to animals is that humans bother to think about their impact on the environment.  You don't see lions considering how many gazelles they kill, or cows carefully marking areas of grass to not eat.  You don't see beavers marking areas to not build dams in order to keep the river ecosystem working.  Humans put artificial restrictions on themselves, while animals don't.  Some of these restrictions, like "don't murder", and "don't rape" make us better than animals, some of them make us worse (like "don't hurt animals" or "don't emit carbon")
Fundamentally I think that you are just not suited to this world if you fundamentally think of all animal traits as bad things.  TBH I think your understanding of romance shines light on your psyche and your lack of romance yourself.
